Are you an economic development professional looking to hone your skills in regards to using social media? The University of Waterloo’s Local Economic Development Master’s program is offering a three day seminar covering the following topics:
- Web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0: Where did this come from and where is it going?
- Economics and social media: Hype vs. Hope
- Wikis and interactivity: leveraging community
- User-generated content in economic development
- Marketing through social networks
Attendees to the seminar will have the opportunity to learn insights from professionals who have experienced real-life situations where social media is playing a role in economic development agencies.
Invited presenters include:
- Michael R. Marini, Marketing Coordinator, Planning & Economic Development Department at the City of Hamilton. Michael will be on hand to discuss the steps that were needed to gain acceptance by senior levels of management, the purposes of the city’s use of social media and some interesting examples of how the tools are being used to promote the city.
- Isabelle Poirier, President of Intelegia. Isabelle will be the instructor for a one-day seminar where attendees will learn how to use social media in an investment attraction strategy. Isabelle will discuss the importance of using Web 2.0 applications as promotional and strategic intelligence gathering tools for economic development agencies.
- Dan Taylor, Director of Economic Development, Prince Edward County (Ontario). Dan (a.k.a. Creative DanT) will share his insights that went into the Prince Edward County use of social media tools for economic development initiatives.
- Brock Dickinson, Principal, Millier Dickinson Blair. Brock will provide an in-depth overview of Web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and their applications to economic development.
